Jump-Start Performance Co. • 28
Founded in 1985, Jump-Start Performance Co. has since produced and presented over 500 original works of performance. Jump-Start is committed to the creation of art that is a lasting voice for diverse cultures and communities. Organizational programs include new productions by company members and guest artists at Jump-Start Theater, long-term educational residencies in our communities, workshops, visual art exhibitions, and Jump-Start-At-Large (site-specific performance).
For On & Off Fred, Jump-Start proudly presents the work of Texas native Michael Martinez (firstname.lastname@example.org, michael. martinez.com). Michael holds a BFA from Pacific Northwest College of Art and has shown nationally in Portland, Oregon, and San Antonio and abroad in Belgrade, Serbia. Working primarily within the spectrum of performance and new media, Michael is a Queer conceptual artist of Color whose work grapples with the subjects of identity and representation, examining the erasure of LGBTX presence from the greater narrative of the Americas. At Jump-Start, Michael’s installation serves as the set for Te Voy a Conquistar, part theatre, part conceptual performance – “Out of the closet and into the gallery!” – and part experimental drag show. Performances take place Saturday, February 18, at 1, 3 and 5 pm and Sunday, Februry 19, at noon, 2 and 4 pm during On & Off Fred.
