K23 Gallery features art that leans toward the outrageous. We are an artist- run space focused on showing quality work by both established and emerging artists. We select and display works in a variety of media that cross boundaries and smash taboos, providing a platform for artists who might otherwise not have one as well as bring new ideas and make them accessible to the community around us.
K23, founded by Gem and Glenn Hotvet, opened in June of 2014. Gem is a painter and Glenn is a DJ. Both are lifelong lovers, supporters and collectors of the arts. K23 is named after a scent introduced in Tom Robbins’ 1984 novel Jitterbug Perfume. K23’s exhibitions are available to the public by appointment. We are part of the local “Second Friday” art opening schedule, meaning that a new show debuts on the 2nd Friday of every month throughout the year.
On exhibit during the 8th Annual On & Off Fredericksburg Road Studio Tour is “Unabashed Trash,” featuring Jim Tozzi, Weston Ryan and Bexar Bellamy. Our current exhibition is a romp through America’s finest underground culture with a show full of nonsensical, light hearted and downright weird images. This month’s exhibition is a collection heavily leaning to Lowbrow pop-surrealism. Bellamy, Ryan and Tozzi use illustrative style to humorously point out and ridicule the quirks and silliness of the world in which we all live. Jim Tozzi is an American artist, commercial director, producer, voice actor and musician from New York. He is best known for his work on the MTV2 comedy series Wonder Showzen and the Adult Swim show Xavier: Renegade Angel and as a member of the rock band/art collective PFFR. Bexar Bellamy and Weston Ryan are local artists.
